It seems too easy these days to fall into despair or hopelessness over the state of our country. What is needed is loving action, not apathy. Love is the only evolutionary force. When we act with love, great things can happen.
I awoke in despair the other morning, and decided I would pray instead. ”May all beings be filled with loving kindness; may all beings be free from suffering.” Over these days I try to remember to pray when I feel the weight of despair descend.
I remember the research done in Japan that proved the power of prayer: molecules in water changed when the water was prayed over. We are mostly water – our molecules change when we pray for others or ourselves, and when others pray for us.
We can pray. What else? Here are some suggestions (add yours please):
- Don’t watch the news first thing in the morning or last thing at night.
- Read positive news: YES! magazine has a website, and you can sign up for daily emails. People are doing WONDERFUL things to support each other and the planet all over the world.
- Create your own positive prayer or mantra to say to yourself throughout your day.
- More singing and dancing and playing! With friends or alone.
- Remembering that we are literally all connected, everyone and everything on Earth. Everything we do, say, think and feel affects everyone else. Compassion for self and others. Love for self and others.
- Read everything by adrienne maree brown; her podcast is How to Survive the End of the World.
- Read anything by bell hooks, especially All About Love.
- Read everything by Resmaa Menakem.
- Know that patriarchy is less than 5000 years old, and it is dying. The Age of Aquarius is dawning and promises enough for all. (What we’re seeing is fear-based thinking desperately clinging to the old ways, while the new is emerging.)
- Nurture yourself in every possible way you can. We can’t love others until we love ourselves. It’s NEVER selfish or self-centered; it’s healing for ourselves and the planet.
